Shakespeare
Project Reflection
During this project we were given a role to be in this play. I chose to be Oberon and was very pleased with this decision because he is a very interesting character.During this project we were given a role to play a Midsummer Night’s dream, an old comedy written by Shakespeare. I played Oberon the fairy king who is a bit of a rule breaker.
This project really connected with me because I love using my creativity in production. That's why I chose to be sound design because I found that it would be the fun and I could learn from it. Also, I chose to be a lead character because I wanted to experience what it would be like to memorize a lot of lines. I also enjoyed doing the close readings with the lines in Romeo and Juliet. It really helped me understand my character's lines.
The most challenging part of this project was writing a final essay while trying to memorize my lines and my blocking for my character. Also, it was difficult to work on my essay while going on stage and rehearsing during class. I would be working on my essay then have to go back onstage then forget what I was gonna add on my essay. I persevered and pulled it off but it was a challenge.
I learned that for me it is a lot harder to memorize lines. I thought I could easily do it but it was a lot harder than I though because I had a tough time considering it was in old english.
We still gravitate/celebrate the works of william Shakespeare because it reflects history. It shows how the art of theater has evolved over 400 years and it gives us new perspectives on theater.
