El Día de los Muertos
During this project we were asked to create two calaveras (poems that poke fun at death). One Calavera was meant to be written about a profession so I chose to make mine about a cashier that takes way to long at the register. The other calavera was meant to be abut a famous person and talk about their flaws so I chose Ellen and talked about how she is way to generous. Also, we had to relate our calavera to death some how. Then we had to choose our favorite out of the two calaveras and illustrate it. The second part of this project was that we had to choose someone who had died and create a small biography of their life then create a colorful and decorated shrine. I person that I chose to do this for was Tupac Shakur, a rapper who died in the late 90s. It took me several attempts to create my calavera to perfection and I had to revise it many different times. I have three different pieces of paper and each one is a different draft for both of my calaveras. Finally on my third draft there were no errors and I felt satisfied with my work. This process took about two and a half weeks. Once I had error free calveras I chose the one about the cashier to draw and decorate. I made mine very colorful and I am very proud of it. This project has made me appreciate the Mexican culture a lot more because now I have a better understanding on how they celebrate the dead and how much it means to them. I find it truly amazing that they have held on to these traditions for so long and still celebrate them every year.
